Maybe you noticed the lower amount of articles since May at MobileBoard. That's because I was involved in new project, which I managed to finalise. I just became an editor of the biggest Android site & forum in Poland - android.com.pl.
What does it mean to MobileBoard? I guess even lower number of new posts, because it's hard for me to keep updating two different sites - it's not my primary job.

Thank you for taking your time and reading my posts, I appreciate that!
I hope that you will have one more occasion to read my thoughts in English language media in future.

Regards
At the time of writing there are more than 10 games available for download - in this article I'll present you a few of them.

Fruit Ninja THD

Fruit Ninja is a very popular game among Android and iOS users. The goal is to slice as many fruits as you can while avoiding touching bombs. As a fan of Fruit Ninja, I was curious to check out the Tegra HD version.

Like in the standard version, there are 3 game modes: classic, zen and arcade mode. There is also multiplayer mode, which allows to play with opponent in split screen mode.

The differences appear, when we start playing. The textures are reacher, fruits are looking much better and there are shades behind all objects.

The price which is paid for all these eye-candy details, is that fruits fly a little bit slower than they do in standard version, but it's nothing disturbing, you can only see that when you compare the games very closely.

Overall the gaming quality is really good, graphics quality is stunning and gameplay is just as involving as in classic version.

My rate: 4,5 / 6

Guerilla Bob THD

Guerilla Bob is one of the best looking shooter game available for Android. The plot is simple - you are a mercenary, who is looking for a revange, and is killing everything which is preventing him from reaching the goal. While this might sound like nothing special, I am sure that you will be impressed after first contact with thit title.

Catchy, cartoon-stlye graphics are keeping us company in every part of the game. Texture quality is really good and watching them is a real pleasure. Animations are very fluid and the game doesn't get choppy in any moment.

There are various weapons you are able to use - they differ in terms of fire range, speed and power. You must fight against few types of enemies, each level finishes with special boss.

I really recommend this game to all shooter-lovers, the rest of you may find it cool, but not so involving in long time usage.

Pinball HD for Tegra

There is no doubt that this is one of my favourite Tegra2 games. The idea is really simple - it's just a pinball. But it's the overall excellence which makes it better than any other Android game of this type.

You can choose from 3 different table styles: Wild West, The Deep and Jungle Style. You can say that this amount isn't really big, but I found it just enough - none of these styles is same. Every one of them gives you different look and experience - you can't get bored easily.

The tables are nicely designed, delivered soundtrack is matching very good to the chosen style. During the game we are able watch top-notch animations which are displayed smoothly.

The gameplay is not complicated, but very relaxing. For me Pinball HD is quite addictive game and I choose to play it whenever I have some spare time. It's definetely worth trying - I'm sure you'll love it!

Riptide GP

I'm definetely not a big fan of racing games, but this one I play quite often. Why? First of all it's really good made, with care about every detail. The point is to finish the race first, using water scooter. You can select one of few tracks, vehicles and difficulty levels.

Shame is, that the amount of tracks is not as big as it should be. You can get bored after some time and that is the only drawback of Riptide GP.

Gameplay itself is not boring at all and can bring you a few hours of fun. I'm sure that if you like this kind of games, Riptide GP will be perfect for you.

My rate: 3,5 / 6

Samurai II: Vengeance

Ever wanted to become samurai warior? Now you have that opportunity :)

Samurai II: Vengeance is a sequel of Samurai: Way of the Warrior (which is iOS only) and tells a story of Japanese warior who is trying to fulfill his quest.

The plot is not bad, but it's definetely not the strongest part of this game. For me the main advantage are stunning fights with various opponents. They are very fast, and special combo moves make them even faster.

The graphics are very characteristic, manga stylized. Everything is very detailed and looks beautiful.

But for me that isn't kind of game, which I can play for hours. I don't mean it's not fun, but there are some better titles in the Market.

My rate: 4 / 6

I just made a review of O2X for the biggest Android site in Poland, make sure you check it out :)

http://android.com.pl/testy/testy/2256-lg-optimus-2x-recenzja.html?showall=1
Although some users are facing issues, and are not satisfied with their device. Here are few tips, which can help you increase user experience of your brand new dual-core monster.

1. Check if your software is up-to-date

Some units of O2X were delivered with early builds of software and were not always stable. If you are facing random reboots, one of possible reasons for that may be old firmware.
The baseband version is also important - users who reported bad audio quality during phone call confirmed, that update solved their problems.

Be sure that you are using the latest version of software (current is v10D).
You can always check for updates with LG Mobile Support Tool.

2. Replace the stock launcher

Your O2X is not enough smooth? You can't stand that switching between homescreens is not fluid?
Repleace crappy LG Launcher with other app! Just visit Android Market and download one of the few popular 3rd party launchers, like LauncherPro or ADW Launcher. You can also try stock Froyo/Gingerbread launcher.

3. Remove bloatware

O2X comes preloaded with several additions from LG. While some of them are really handy, few others are not at all, and are only wasting resources. To remove them, you will have to root your device, which is a piece of cake, and this operation can be reverted with ease.
After you gained Superuser (root) access, download for free TitaniumBackup from Market.
Than click on the app which you are sure is not important (for example: F-Secure, CarHome, widgets), and select "freeze" (or "uninstall" if you are 100% sure).

4. Stop using task killers

There were several articles about why using task killers in Android is pointless, I won't talk about it.
Just believe me that you don't need it, and it only makes you feel that the device is unresponsive.
Instead, try AutoKiller from Market (root needed) and select "Optimum" preset - it will help system with managing background apps and leave you with more RAM free.

5. Install MoDaCo Custom ROM

If you are enough advanced user, go and take a look at MCR by Paul. It's the best custom ROM at the moment of writing, and comes with set of customisations and tweaks which will increase performance of your Optimus 2X.
If you will donate MoDaCo, you will be able to use online kitchen and easily bake ROM which will suit your needs. But you don't need to do that to use MCR, there is always prebake available - the downside is that it comes preloaded with apps you may find not useful, so you will have to take a look at part 3. of this tutorial.

You can download the latest version of MCR here.

If you have any questions, leave them in comments, I'll take my time and try to help you :)piter1225http://www.blogger.com/profile/04294958963889207096noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6025507416993124323.post-77427475923832928202011-04-11T16:35:00.001+02:002011-04-11T16:35:28.720+02:00Samsung Galaxy S 2 release date & prices for Germany

It looks like Smaung's new dual-core flagship for 2011 has been delayed once again.
First rumors pointed that the mid-April will be the launch date for this smartphone, but latest news prove that it won't be that optimistic.

According to expansys.de, they will start delivery at 13.05, and the initial price will be 604 Euro:

Amazon Germany is expecting the device in next 4-5 weeks, which is about 15.05, so the dates in both shops are similar, the difference shows when it comes to price, at Amazon.de you will have to pay around 50 Euro less for Samsung Galaxy S2:

I think that the price is pretty high, but is still reasonable for very good smartphone, the initial reviews will show us, if the SGS2 is worth it's price.piter1225http://www.blogger.com/profile/04294958963889207096noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6025507416993124323.post-77487512881804316032011-04-10T11:17:00.001+02:002011-04-10T15:27:20.758+02:00Known devs who have / will get LG O2XOne of the biggest advantages of LG Optimus 2X is it's great hackability. The device is easy to root and doesn't come with encrypted bootloader, what makes developement for it a piece of cake.
This smartphone is so attractive, that a few known devs decided to buy it, or get in a near future.

1. Paul O'Brien - already has the O2X, chef of MoDaCo, author of MCR, MCK,, prepared CWM for O2X and many fixes/tweaks.

2. AmonRA - author of RA Recovery, already has the device

3. Anderwebs - author of ADW Launcher, already has the device

4. Chris Soyars - CyanogenMod developer, he is thinking about getting the G2X

5. Kmobs - CyanogenMod developer, he is thinking about getting the G2X

6. Steve Kondik (aka Cyanogen) - author of CyanogenMod, tweeted that he is getting the G2X

This is something what Optimus 2X users were asking for some time, since the device has no dedicated notification LED.

The app is currently in beta state, but you can download and try it:

DOWNLOAD

Make sure you check the original thread for future updates!

And now about the device:

The hardware feels great, the quality of materials used is very hihg, the O2X feels very solid in hand. The IPS display, covered with curved Gorilla Glass is very bright, and I don't miss AMOLED fom SGS at all.

The stock LG Launcher isn't the fastest one, but once you replace with ADW or Launcher Pro it is balzing fast.
Overall the device is very responsive.

Now I'm going to root it, install CWM recovery, and try some fun with custom ROMs.

1. Great hackability

The O2X is one of the few high-end smartphones which are not equipped with any type of encryption, which would prevent users from installing modified kernels, custom ROMs and recoveries. LG allowed users to take advantage of their devices.
It has been proved by Paul O'Brien, who already prepared CWM Recovery, MoDaCo Custom Kernel and MoDaCo custom ROM, increasing the funcionality of the dual-core O2X.

Recent news tell, that there is official CyanogenMod ROM in works, yesterday known Android hacker kmobs tweeted two photos of LG O2X running CM7 RC, which is based on Gingerbread.

2. Tegra2 CPU + GeForce ULV GPU

The NVIDIA's dual core CPU boosts the performance of Android OS, and is currently the most advanced SoC available on the market. The performance of device may even increase with new version of Android, which will take advantage of the real power of dual-core smartphones.
There were many articles showing why dual-core devices are so outstanding, my favourite one is from AndroidAndMe, you can check it out:

AndroidAndMe: 5 compelling reasons you will want to buy a dual-core mobile device

3. Good hardware quality

The LG optimus 2X was designed in rather conservative way, the design is rather simple and minimalistic. The materials which were used are ordinary, but solid. The O2X includes soft-touch plastick back cover with the metal strip, and GorillaGlass front with the curved edges. For me - nothing to add more, great that LG didn't used the shiny plastic cover like in Korean version.

4. TMobile G2X

Few weeks ago TMobile confirmed, that they will launch O2X as their next G-series device, running vanilla Android. This information is great for all European O2X owners, because it will boost user support for this device.
Also there shouldn't be a problem with porting G2X stock Android ROM to O2X, which is just another advantage.

5. Great relation of price - quality

The LG Optimus 2X isn't as overpriced as many new devices which are released/available for preorder, which makes it much more attractive. The current price equals around 470 Euro including all taxes, so it's very competitive.

In my previous articles I focused more on disadvantiges, proving that the LG Optimus 2X isn't a perfect device. Surely, but there are many positive factors which made me order this smartphone. It's one of the best products released this year, and with the growing community support I feel it will have a very long life.

Isn't that how the 'Nexus' device should look like?piter1225http://www.blogger.com/profile/04294958963889207096noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6025507416993124323.post-91734093708065275432011-03-28T14:12:00.000+02:002011-03-28T14:12:23.858+02:00LG Optimus 2X release dates for UKMost of us are still waiting for the O2X to be available in their country. It looks like we have stable release dates for UK now. Most of sources confirm, that the beginning of the April is the launch date for the new dual-core LG smartphone for th United Kingdom.

According to phones4u.co.uk, the customers can recieve their orders at 8.04

Expansys.uk is expecting delivery in two days, but I don't know if their release dates are reliable, they change them quite often for LG Optimus 2X.

This is great information for everyone, who enjoys custom ROMs.

A little bit of history: the device was officially announced 16th December, and was said to be launhced in Q1 2011 - first in Korea, than Eourope was supposed to follow.
The sale in Korea started at the end of January, and everyone (at least me) was excited to see it in Europe.
Nothing was sure until MWC (February 2011) - smartphone was presented to wide audiece, and LG calimed that it is comming soon.
Few weeks ago (around mid-March) first shipment of O2X came to Netherlands (Rotherdam is the largest port in Europe - every big ship arrives there), and the device was finally launched. The next to follow were Danemark, Belgium and Sweden.
But no O2X for the rest of Europe.

I have pre-ordered mine O2X from Polish retailer around 28.02, but still no package for me. Also Expansys changed few times their release dates, and I covered that in my previous posts. Amazon.de changed the launch date to 31.03, together with price increase.
Today I contacted the shop where I've placed my preorder, and they shared with me information, that the shipment may be delayed once again because of Japan tsunami - they were supposed to get it until end of this week, but this might not happen.

The LG Optimus 2X is a very good device, and was supposed to become market bestseller because of it's processing power, delivered by Tegra2. Fast release would be one of it's selling points, but it's nearly April, and on the horizon we see the GalaxyS II which includes double of RAM and SAMOLED+, there is also HTC Pyramid, with 1,2 GHz Snapdragon, 768MB of RAM, and with this devices in the same price range, customers may have problems with choosing LG as their next device.

I have canceled my preorder, now I'm waiting for CTIA, and will see if the HTC Pyramid is worth waiting additional few weeks more - I've waited so long for O2X, why shouldn't I wait more for (much?) better device...
I'm also thinking about paying few Euro's more, and ordering the O2X from Netherlands.

Few days ago fresh renders from xda.cn appeared, showing sleek device, with big display, half made from aluminium. I really like this design!

Today benchmark reults were presented, and they are not as outstanding as the overall look of the device. In fact they are pretty average - it looks it still needs some optimisations to be able to fight with Tegra2.

On the other hand these are just numbers, the real performance is what you see everyday.

piter1225http://www.blogger.com/profile/04294958963889207096noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6025507416993124323.post-81030488199718952952011-03-13T20:13:00.000+01:002011-03-13T20:13:36.726+01:00More informations about TMobile G2XMany people say, taht they would buy the LG O2X, if it wasn't loaded with the LG's custom UI, which reminds them of TouchWiz mixed with iOS. I'm very big fan of Android stock interface, and also wrote article, about how the UI attitude should look like.

It looks like our prayers were accepted - TMobile decided to continue the G-series, and the LG Optimus 2X will be adopted as G2X, which will come (like G1 and G2) with the stock Android user experience!
This is really great move, and will let many of users feel the real power of this device, liberated from not-always-perfect LG's cutom UI.

According to AndroidAndMe and TMoNews, the device will be presented at CTIA Wireless, which takes place in a couple of weeks on March 22-24.

The device is said to use TMobile 4G network as well.

PlayStation Suite is cross-platform software, which can bring PlayStation experience to everybody. This will be a shop, filled with PS games - firstly it will be PSOne ports. It is said to be able to work on many devices, no matter what the device is - Sony said that their console will be also compatibile with the PlayStation Suite.

According to Engadget, the Tegra2 devices will support it - sounds great for me, this will bring high quality gaming to many mobile devices. There are some rummors, that the PS2 games ports are also in works, but no confirmation yet.

What important we can read there?

They say, that they have no clue, why retailer changed the date to April.

Also it's important to notice, that the device will be shipped to German retailers around 16.03 - not straight to clients - the date you will get your sweet O2X depands on shop's politics.

They confirmed, that Amazon.de will be one of first to ship the new dual core smartphone in Germany.
The Korean version is available since late January, about week about week ago people in Netherlands and Danemark recieved their pre-orders, but the most of people on the Old Continent must still wait - and it looks like some will wait even more.

According to Expansys, the release date changed for many countries, let's take a look:

For countries in the middle and west of EU (ex. Germany, France, Poland, Czech Republic) the date changed to 3 April (original - 21.03)

For the United Kingdom, the date moved to 30.03

And lucky people from Netherlands can still order from local stores; here's a shot from one of them, which stock is nearly all sold:

I guess that you remember that around month ago Motorola promissed to think about their bootloader policy:

“We apologize for the feedback we provided regarding our bootloader policy. The response does not reflect the views of Motorola.
We are working closely with our partners to offer a bootloader solution that will enable developers to use our devices as a development platform while still protecting our users’ interests. More detailed information will follow as we get closer to availability.”

What's the result?

Atrix was left with encrypted bootloader, preventing using custom kernels and switching Android version, while Xoom was equipped with fastboot oem unlock (which you may know from Nexus series) making hacking peace of cake, and leaving Atrix owners with a sad face.

In my opinion every manufacturer should leave user choice to void his warranty and do with his device what he wishes to. Atrix users are working on hacking the bootloader, but who knows how long can it take...
What I've found shocked me, the price is really high!

It's 649 GBP, which is around 772 EUR

IMO that is not the price which smartphone is worth, on other services the new GalaxyS II is priced around 540 GBP

The release date is said to be 18.04, while Engadget says that it will be out even this month.
There are some leaks and teasers which are made to catch our attention to specified products. What I am excited about?

1. HTC Desire 2

If HTC will bring the 3.7" qHD Super AMOLED display together with dual-core Snapdragon, Gingerbread, 1GB of RAM, good battery and unibody design this could be a big win. The codename of this device is said to be "Passion2" - which suggest something extraordinary (original "Passion" is Nexus One). Hopefuly HTC will introduce to us something big, after several boring DesireHD remakes.

2. Smasung Galaxy S2

We don't know much about new SGS2, but rumors provided the information about stylish device, packed with dual core CPU, we still don't know which one is it exactly (Tegra2/Orion). While I am not fan of the original SGS, I'm curious if this time Samsung's attempt will be better.

3. Xperia Play

If you follow my blog, you've probably seen my article about why I am not excited about Xperia Play. I would never consider this monster to be neither my next device nor gaming console. Although I'm always pleased to see unusual products on the market, I am also wondering, if SE managed to fix the overall device slugishness, which was shown on previews. BTW I love the Xperia Play ad, if you haven't seen it, you definetly should check it out.

piter1225http://www.blogger.com/profile/04294958963889207096noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6025507416993124323.post-4417209278162789492011-02-07T22:11:00.006+01:002011-02-16T16:25:30.726+01:00Why I will skip LG's Optimus 2X and wait for HTC/MotorolaIf you follow me on twitter or often visit MobileBoard you probably know, how much I was excited about new LG-NVIDIA 'superphone'. On the paper it is a clear win for every Android enthisiast - latest hardware, including dual-core Tegra2, 8MP camera + 1080p, IPS dispaly and more.
But thanks to early reviews (especially by Engadget), I've decided firstly to wait for MWC and see what the next year in smartphone market will look like

Why?

1. The software

The LG's UI isn't as polished as others, more the reviewers found many times unresponsiveness, force-closes, and overall system unstability. Maybe it's because it's still not finall version, but the point is, that they are still working on Android 2.2.1 Froyo, and they had enough time to get things working. How long will it take for LG to get 2.3 working properly? Or even 2.4?

2. RAM

Optimus 2X includes 512MB of RAM. It should be enough for daily operations, but in my opinion isn't enough for 'superphone' which it wants to be. My guess is that in next year the 1GB will become a standard among high end devices. The LG's O2X has 128MB of it's RAM dedicated to GPU, so the 'real' user available RAM is 384MB: the 174MB are always in use by system resources (in current software), so the user accesible RAM is around 220MB. Still better than SGS, but not enough for 'superphone'.

3. The company

LG was for me always connected with low-end segment - the O2X is their first shot into highest Android league, and the debuts are rarely perfect - the early reviews showed it's surely isn't. While I don't like Motorola for locking their devices, I believe they know how to make good devices. HTC is well known for quality of their products. Other point is, that the LG as smartphone company didn't got as many fans as HTC did, and the dev's community is much stronger for Taiwaneese manufacturer.

I'm still a student, and I can't afford myself to change the device which costs arond 500 Euro every 4 months, so I need to know, that the smartphone which I'm going to buy doesn't have strong disadvantages, for this amount of money I must feel that I'm buying the best smartphone around, which LG O2X definetly doesn't feel like, with the Atrix and new HTC's in the horizon. The LG Optimus 2X surely is a good device, but many factors shown after first reviews are making it less attractive, than it was in early news.
